Jan Carey - Felt-Maker and Fibre Artist
TEXTURES MEMBER SINCE 2022
Janice Carey, of Hamilton and Brantford, began her artistic career as an art gallery and framing proprietor. A life-long creator, she works and teaches in batik and rice-paper watercolours, bead work, silver jewellery design, and most recently, felting. Her works are usually featured in art gallery gift shops.
Sculpting felt has become Ms Carey’s latest expression of a deep love of nature, using natural wool fibres and hand-made papers, organic colours and fluid shapes to create vessels that appear to have evolved naturally in Ontario’s landscapes. Her works evoke the spirits of the woods, streams and skies. They tempt the eye and touch with their sensual, organic shapes and textures. The vessels become luminaries with LED twinkle lights or a vase can be inserted for arrangements of dried flowers and grasses.
