Lauchlan harrison - leathersmith
TEXTURES MEMBER SINCE 2000
Lauch started working with soft leather, sheepskin and fur 30 years ago. His interest in one-piece patterns led to a unique mitt designs especially useful for sheepskin. He joined the Canadian Society for Creative Leathercraft and his involvement led to an advanced Fellowship level. He uses vegetable tanned leather and alcohol based dyes to make bottle coverings, drinking vessels, boxes and other personal articles.
Lauchlan has demonstrated his craft of Harness Stitching in the shop where he uses waxed linen thread, two needles and an awl to make the holes in the heavy leather mug handle. The mug gets wet-molded on a round form, dried, bottom stitched then waxed to make it waterproof. The resulting beer mug has an insulating quality that keeps the beer cool in the hot afternoon sun.
