MARGO GRIFFITH — CO-FOUNDER, TEXTURES CRAFTWORKS
– By Sharon Beasley, Bookbinder, Textures Craftworks Co-founder
Margo was one of the founders of Textures Craftworks in 1983 and continued as a director of Textures until 2014. With a background in education (BA from Douglas College), master of crafts in many media, courses in craft display and marketing, jurying locally and provincially, Margo brought many assets to the operation, growth and development of Textures. She was a mentor to many young crafts people and loved to encourage and guide their development.
Primarily a soft toy-maker, Margo created many character mooses, and later on, character sock monkeys – always with a sense of humour. She was very much a fabric artist, producing large wall hangings, clothing, painted silk scarves, and many other creative works in multi-media.
Margo was the winner of many awards in the crafts field, but the most important to her was the growth and success of Textures Craftworks which was established to serve local artisans and to show and sell their work to the public in a permanent, self-supporting centre.
Margo and I were friends for 50 years and I also had the privilege of working with her as a co-founder and director at Textures for 35 years. She is sadly missed but always remembered.
